Introduction

Welcome to Competency Management Incorporated’s MIO :Maximize Interview Outcomes. The limited license you purchased allows this workbook to be used by one person as a self-study course. The primary goal of this program is to help prepare you for just about any type of job interview you might go on.

The basic principle behind this program is to help you practice the skills you need to Maximize Interview Outcomes. You can do this by answering every job interview question effectively. This principle applies to any industry and any position. Being able to deal with any situation and respond effectively maximizes your chance to land the job!

This exceptional workbook is based on our extensive (more than thirty years) interviewer training experience, including the core program designed for training corporate interviewers that won 1st place for distinguished achievement in human resource development awarded by Instructional Systems Association. Fortune 500, public, private and government organizations use CMI’s interviewer programs.

This workbook presents lists of typical interview questions, some sample responses, and opportunities to write your own responses. As you go along, focus on practicing the skills that are described. Don’t try to memorize the lists of questions or particular responses. Even if it is the best answer you’ve ever come up with, don’t bother! You may never get a chance to use that answer, but you will get plenty of chances to use the skills presented in this workbook. You will encounter a wide range of interview types, interviewer styles, and interview questions as you apply for different jobs. It is nearly impossible to memorize “pat” responses that will be effective in all of these situations. You’ll be better off if you develop and practice the skills you need to handle any situation.

We hope you will find this an interesting approach. It is intended to polish existing skills and teach you some new ones. If you haven’t already, you’ll want to print this workbook. That way, you can make your own notes as you go along and actively participate in the exercises. Read the text carefully and work through the exercises at your own pace. When you have completed the workbook, it will serve as a tool for you as you go on interviews.

We firmly believe the CMI-MIO approach will help you on job interviews. However, the final outcome (i.e., the hiring or promotion decision) is influenced by many factors. Therefore, nothing in this workbook should be interpreted as a guarantee for getting a job.
