CMI's Healthcare Benchmarker Survey Gives Answers to

Healthcare Providers Hoping to Overcome Nursing Shortage

LAS VEGAS, NV, /PRNewswire/ -- In the midst of the current nursing shortage, healthcare providers are scrambling to increase job satisfaction among employees. Now a new nationwide survey of the healthcare industry by global human resources firm Competency Management Inc. (CMI, www.competencymanagement.com) reveals a simple but significant finding: less than half of all respondents felt that their supervisors consistently recognized their contributions on the job.

"Viewed by itself, this finding suggests that healthcare leaders are missing opportunities to use simple and inexpensive means of rewarding employees -- verbal praise, recognition in newsletters, an e-mail of thanks, etc.," said Dr. Greg Haudek, CMI Director. "What really makes this a vital piece of information is its relationship with other items. The data indicate strong relationships between supervisor recognition and employees being satisfied with their jobs and perceiving their organizations as excellent places to work. Simply put, more recognition from supervisors leads to satisfied employees that are less likely to leave their current employers."

Designed to give healthcare providers truly comparable external benchmarking data on critical HR challenges, CMI's survey, dubbed Healthcare Benchmarker™ (CMI HB™), collected data over several months in the areas of communication, diversity, growth environment, leadership practices, patient care, overall reputation, and workload. The results were compiled in a nationwide database, marking the first time such data has been available for the healthcare industry on a national scale. The company continues to collect healthcare data; all healthcare employees are invited to participate in CMI HB at http://competencymanagement.com/hb/. All answers are anonymous and confidential.
