CMI Small Enterprise Enhancement (CMI SEE™) Workshop

Is your small business not quite humming along as you think it should be? Has your success outgrown your management structure? Does it seem like your people are not functioning as a real team? If so, you should consider CMI’s Small Enterprise Enhancement Program.

The key objectives the CMI SEE™ Workshop are to:

  • Gain Balanced Insight into Your Organizational Dynamics
  • Enhance Your ‘Team’ Member Effectiveness
  • Increase Your Enterprise’s Performance

There are three components to the process:

  • Preliminary Data Gathering
  • Small Enterprise Enhancement (CMI SEE™) Workshop
  • Post CMI SEE™ Follow-up

SEE™ Workshop Deliverables:

  • Clear understanding of your organization’s current strengths and opportunities.
  • “Real time” (based on the exercises) analysis and feedback on Team Effectiveness measures including: persuasiveness and flow of communications, effectiveness of member interaction, identification of potential problems, quantity and quality of solutions.
  • Specific actionable recommendations regarding structure (organization, work flow, staffing, strategies and physical environment) to enhance capability to achieve long range objectives.

All of CMI’s SEE™ Programs are tailored for each client application. This provides a brief overview of our methodology. Please use the form at the end to ask for additional information or call us at +1 313.885.4421.

Information is collected during this phase to allow CMI to tailor our Small Enterprise Enhancement (CMI SEE™) Workshop to your organization’s specific needs. Typically information is gathered through one-on-one interviews with your group’s core leadership unit and by a mini-survey distributed to all of your group. The focus of the interviews is to better understand your group’s unique culture, dynamics, and mission/vision. The survey is designed to identify the specific issues contributing to both effective and ineffective enterprise performance. It is normally web based on our secure server.

The CMI SEE™ Workshop runs for approximately four hours (including breaks) and is informative, fun and highly participative in design. The exercises used include:

  • CMI Quick Pic
This instrument completed at the start of the workshop, focuses participants on team member interactions, team functioning, and team leadership. It takes about five minutes to complete and serves as a feedback tool later in the workshop.
  • SEE™ Award Part I
This exercise transports the participants five years into the future. For this and most of the remaining segments of the SEE™ Workshop, the participants are divided into teams. The (temporary) teams work independently, and to some degree, competitively with one another. In Part I, they have just received notice that they were awarded the coveted Small Enterprise Enhancement Award for meritorious contributions. Each team’s primary task is to define what they done to receive it.
  • Review and feedback of Quick Pic and group survey data
  • SEE™ Award Part II
During this phase of the Workshop the participants work to integrate the feedback data and define alternative ways to bridge the gap between how the organization is organized and run today and their perception five years into the future.
  • Review and feedback
  • A brief team game or two. . .
  • Small Enterprise Enhancement Award Part III
During this phase of the Workshop the participants work to develop action plans for implementing the best ideas from Part II.
  • Final review and feedback

As part of the workshop we (one or more CMI psychologists) work with the participants and discuss issues leading to enhanced contributions by each person as well as improving the effectiveness of the organization as a whole. Historically, the action plans that evolve as part of the Small Enterprise Enhancement exercises have proved quite valuable to both the participants and organization management from a strategic planning perspective. They usually include ideas relevant to both technology and people management issues.

We will provide a ‘debriefing’ meeting with you and suggest relevant next steps.
LOGISTICS
The Workshop should be scheduled in a room (or rooms) large enough to comfortably hold all the participants, allow for flexible seating with tables and areas to break off into small groups, flip charts, and an overhead or multimedia projector. Depending on timing and availability, the Workshop can be held on site, if you have facilities, or off.

In essence, the Small Enterprise Enhancement (CMI SEE™) Workshop is designed to provide an enjoyable, challenging environment to “think out of the box” about highly job related issues based on real data combined with a brainstorming futuristic perspective.

CMI has conducted similar workshops for diverse clients such as: Agouron Pharmaceuticals (objective: take 125 new sales and marketing field organization participants and increase inter- and intra- team cooperation), Parke-Davis (objective: integration of competing research units in new organization) Warner Lambert and Pfizer (objective: new operating structure for combined units), and Port Huron Hospital (objective: overcome communication and logistic barriers across IS units in the system), St. John Health System (multiple programs- objectives: design management structure for new facility; overcome morale and integration issues of satellite organizations; identify and implement new management team/structure for department with outmoded management process), and other manufacturing, service and retail organizations.
